this cuff bracelet is designed after Vilhelm Hammershøi's painting, Interior in Strandgade, Sunlight on the Floor (1901)
many of Hammershøi's work show intimate interiors of his Copenhagen homes where he used as studios and subject matters. he was known to prefer old buildings and old furniture, and atmosphere they possessed. the sunlight on the floor in this piece makes me think of the passage of time. to me it's the representation of not just the moment that was captured but the time the painter had spent in that home. I designed the cuff with the window component elevated from the base so that it would cast shadows on the wearer's wrist. I'm curious to see how the shadow changes in different locations, times of a day, or seasons of an year, and how that would be associated with a wearer's story of life.
